One Hour of Aurora over Mount Katahdin

  • I drove a long way and spent a bleary eyed night to see my first glimpse of the aurora and to see it over Katahdin. This is a single one hour-long exposure. It's not the standard aurora photo, but I wanted to make a photo that captured the passage of time watching my first aurora while also highlighting the elevational component of the colors and the atmospheric chemistry that makes this spectacle possible. The brights star trails directly above Katahdin are the Big Dipper.
